Tool
Horse medication planner: printable dose checklist
Medicine, first day, doses a day and the number of days. You get a chart with a box per dose, the last day and the end of the withdrawal.
What it does
- Makes a chart with a box per dose to tick off.
- Works out the last day, and the end of the withdrawal period.
- Prints as A4 or Letter for the feed room.
What it doesn’t do
- Knows no doses and no withdrawal times; those come from your vet.
- Doesn’t replace the passport or the medicines record.
- Stores nothing. Print it or take a photo.
What happens to your input
What you enter stays in your browser and disappears when you close the page. There is deliberately no link to share, because a course is health information. Nothing is sent to a server; we only count that the tool was used.
What to do with it
Print the chart and hang it by the feed. Whoever gives the dose ticks the box with their initials. So the next person knows it’s done, even when several people feed. An empty box shows straight away.
Keep the chart with your papers afterwards: date, medicine and amount are exactly what you need later when the vet asks, and, for a horse that is not signed out of the food chain, what belongs in your records.
Questions
Does this need to go in the passport?
That depends on the medicine and on your horse’s status. For most ordinary medicines: no. But in the UK, if your horse is not signed out of the food chain, you must keep a record. Read the medication records page for the UK, US and Australia.
Can I share the chart with the yard?
Print it, take a photo, or write the doses on the feed chart for the yard. There is deliberately no link to share.
Halster doesn’t diagnose. If you’re unsure about your horse’s health, call your vet.
