Information about Halster
Frequently asked questions
Find answers below about getting started with Halster, the cost and your data.
Can I use Halster yet?
Halster is in testing. On iPhone you join through TestFlight, Apple’s app for test versions: install TestFlight from the App Store, then open the test link on the Halster for iPhone page. Taking part is free.
Would you rather wait until Halster is in the App Store? Then join the waitlist. You will receive one email when you can download the app.
Do I have to enter something every day?
No. Save your feeding instructions and regular schedule, then update them when something changes. At the next feed, you can check the instructions you saved. Recording what you gave is optional.
Can I share instructions with my horse’s carer?
Share feeding instructions as a dated text message. The recipient can read it without Halster. Medication and notes are only included if you choose to share them.
Share a new message after a change; a copy you have sent does not update.
Shared access for carers is in development and not yet available. It is intended to let carers view information in the app within the access you grant.
Can I add several horses?
Yes. Switch between your horses or view the overview for your yard on Today. It shows each horse’s appointments and feeding instructions. If the farrier is coming for several horses, you can make one appointment for them.
Does Care advice determine what is safe?
No. Care advice is being revised around recorded facts, your own settings and sourced information about hazards. Weather does not measure grass sugar or establish safe grazing times. Do not use test-version advice as a safety assessment. Halster does not diagnose conditions; ask your vet about medical concerns.
Do I need an account, and where is my data stored?
For the app, you create a free Halster account with Apple, Google or a code sent by email. Joining the waitlist does not create a Halster account.
Your data is stored on your device and, once you are signed in, on our server in the European Union. Restoring all data on a different device is still being checked.
Halster has no ads and does not sell your data. We do record how the app is used, linked to your account. For the forecast, the weather service receives your yard’s location and your device’s internet address. The privacy statement explains more, including how to turn off usage recording. Can I use Halster without a signal?
You can record and read information even when there is no signal at the yard. Updating the weather forecast for your yard requires internet access.
What happens to my data when I get a new iPhone?
Restoring all your data on a different device is still being checked. Signing in again on the same device while keeping your data has been tested.
If you use a test version, keep the app on your old device. Before removing it, check that your data is present on the new device.
How does Care advice work in the test version?
Care advice and its notifications are being revised. They must use recorded facts, your own settings and sourced information about hazards. Do not use current test-version advice as a safety assessment.
What is Community?
Community is in development and not yet available. It is intended for sharing questions and experiences with other horse owners, separate from your personal records.
Is Halster coming to Android?
Halster is not yet available for Android. There is no launch date yet. Join the Android waitlist and confirm your email address to receive news about availability. Signing up is free and does not start a subscription.
What does Premium cost, and what happens if I cancel?
Euro area: €119.99 a year or €14.99 a month; United Kingdom: £111.99 a year or £13.99 a month; United States: $159.99 a year or $19.99 a month.
Halster is currently available to test through TestFlight. At launch on 17 November 2026, one Premium subscription covers all your horses. If you are eligible for Apple’s introductory offer, the first two weeks are free. You choose a monthly or annual subscription and confirm it with Apple, with payment details provided in advance. Your subscription then renews automatically at the displayed monthly or annual price for your App Store country until you cancel. Cancel in the App Store at least 24 hours before the free trial or current subscription period ends. One free trial is available per Apple Account per subscription group. Everything you save remains available to view and export after your subscription ends.
After Premium ends, you can still view, share and export existing data. You can also continue making calls from saved contact details. Most new entries and planning need Premium. You can still correct ongoing medication, record doses, delete data and turn off reminders.
I was promised free use for one horse when I signed up. Does that still apply?
If you were promised free use of Halster for one horse when you signed up, that still applies. You can use the basic features for one horse free of charge once Halster is available for the platform you selected. There is no Android launch date yet.
Any beta or lifetime access already promised to you keeps its agreed terms. The availability email will explain how to use that access. New sign-ups are covered by the Premium offer above.
What can I record about rides?
Save training sessions and notes for your horse and read them later. Additional ride measurements are still in development.
Which expenses can I record?
Keep your horse’s expenses, such as stabling, feed and farrier visits, and look back at earlier amounts.
